Cobelplast Barrier Expertise Stocks Up
Thursday 17. December 2009 - RPC Cobelplast has provided barrier sheet for Knorrs revolutionary Stock Pot concept, which replaces the traditional foil-wrapped stock cube with a highly practical plastic portion pack. This innovative concept was a winner at the 2009 German Packaging Awards.
Stock remains one of the most familiar and popular methods of favouring meals worldwide, and Knorr has developed a major innovation in the way that stock is prepared and served, signalling the need for a new packaging format.
Using brand new food manufacturing technology, vegetables and herbs are processed to form a convenient jelly-based product with the look and smell of home-made stock. With no artificial preservatives used in the recipes, brand owner Unilever required protective packaging to maintain product freshness on shelf.
RPC Cobelplasts expertise in thermoformed barrier sheet was used to create the convenient, single-serve portion packs. Manufactured in PP/EVOH/PP, the sheet is then formed into the distinctively shaped Stock Pot by Unilever.
Launched initially into China in 2007, the Knorr Stock Pot has since been rolled-out across Europe to widespread acclaim for both the product and its packaging. Recently, the portion pack was voted one of twenty winners at the 2009 German Packaging Awards, a prestigious event that rewards innovations in technology and design which contribute towards modern packaging solutions.
