CGS Publishing Technologies International provides the Federal Training and Research Institute for Graphic Arts & Media, Vienna with ORIS Color Management for Digital Printing
Monday 07. December 2009 - CGS supports the practical education at The Graphische' and gives digital printing a boost in quality with ORIS Press Matcher Pro
CGS Publishing Technologies International, global leader of color management solutions, digital proofing systems and specially formulated media has donated ORIS Press Matcher Pro and ORIS Certified Proof software to the Federal Training and Research Institute for Graphic Arts & Media in Vienna, Austria. The software is being used on a Xerox iGen4 and a Konica Minolta Bizhub for practical training in the area of print & media technology. Thanks to ORIS color management, a perfect simulation of the Process Standard Offset Printing (PSO) has been achieved as well as fulfilling their requirements of quality and consistency. On the occasion of officially handing over the software in Vienna, Heiner Mueller, CGS’ Director Communications & Business Development comments: “For a long time, The Graphische in Vienna has offered a practical-oriented education in print & media technology at a very high level, and has even gained a reputation outside Austria. In addition to offering general education with technical and commercial content, the institute is primarily known for its practical education. Students work in small groups on real-life internal jobs, and are responsible for the entire process from order taking to delivery. The production training is often referred to as a ‘virtual enterprise’. It is exactly this real-life relevance and the learning objectives geared to the state-of-the-art, which make a partnership attractive for suppliers and manufacturers. We at CGS are pleased to help students with our products to understand what color management can accomplish in digital printing today. Modern digital printing systems now have to compete with conventional technology and are quite often used side-by-side with offset presses. Preprints and personalized products are printed digitally, subsequent longer runs are again printed in offset. In both cases a predefined standard like ISO has to be exactly kept.”
Dipl-Paed. Gerhard Rauscher, responsible for the training in print & media technology, is delighted about the donation and the cooperation with CGS: “The installation and training of the software went absolutely smoothly and to our complete satisfaction. The results are very impressive and broaden the training scope in our digital printing department with the installed Xerox iGen4 and our layout printing system, a Konica Minolta Bizhub 350. Naturally, prior to the installation, some of our colleagues were quite skeptical, but were very quickly convinced by the impressive, standardized and anytime repeatable quality, and are now using ORIS Press Matcher with enthusiasm.” Prof. Dipl.-HTL-Ing. Mag. Karl-Bernhard Kasché, department supervisor, adds: “Thanks to the support of CGS, we are now really capable of substantially raising our quality standard. We were particularly surprised how fast and easy it is to achieve a perfect result with ORIS Press Matcher. In the technical training, we can optimize the interaction between offset and digital printing and raise the quality conscience. Incidentally the results can be documented between jobs using ORIS Certified Proof and the printed Fogra wedge. The Konica Minolta printer, until now only used for layout purposes, now delivers a quality level that allows us to use it for internal proofs too; thanks to ORIS Press Matcher.”
CGS is very pleased about the professional communication with teachers and students and will continue to support the diverse activities of the institute in the future. CGS has already confirmed its participation at the print fair ’10, which is taking place for the second time at The ‘Graphische’ in spring of next year. The aim of this event, initiated by the Austrian print & media association, is to offer the print & media industry in Austria a platform for communication. CGS already participated in this year’s event, which was a complete success, attracting over 53 exhibitors.
