Intellecta Infolog Expands Offerings with an HP Indigo press 5500

Thursday 03. December 2009 - Digital press leads to new business and more possibilities for customers

HP today announced that Intellecta Strålins AB, of Falun, Sweden, is expanding its services and winning new business with its five-colour HP Indigo press 5500.

Installed earlier this year, Intellecta Strålins has quickly leveraged the potential of digital print in its region and the press has been running regularly at full capacity in two shifts. Additionally, the company has promoted the use of variable data printing so that it now accounts for some forty percent of jobs.

Founded in 1955 as a privately owned family company, Strålins was sold to Intellecta Infolog in 1988, part of the Intellecta group, which operates advertising agencies in Sweden and Denmark as well as printing businesses in Sweden. Strålins in Falun was a traditional printer and still has a significant offset litho capability. Its digital focus is on short-run and personalised products, like business cards, brochures, advertising materials, books and other variable data-related products. Its customers include advertising agencies and direct customers.

“Our goal in choosing a digital press was to be able to give our customers the same print quality irrespective of which printing process we used,” said Göran Strålin, financial director, Intellecta Strålins. “We had been told that as litho offset printers it would be easier for us to operate an HP Indigo press, since we already understood ink and the offset process. Our start-up of the HP Indigo press confirmed this as it went very smoothly.”

One of the major new projects enabled by Intellecta Strålins is the web-to-print production of catalogues for a local university, personalised for individual students and containing only the information they require, with the interface on the university’s own website.

“Production and distribution costs have been dramatically reduced,” said Göran Strålin, “and the university no longer produces a standard catalogue. With very short turnaround times, the responses by both the university and students have been very positive.”

Another aspect of the HP Indigo press 5500 that Göran Strålin appreciates is that the digital process generates less waste than conventional printing. “Like most Swedish companies, we are environmentally aware: we are Swan labelled and our environmental management system is certified according to ISO 14001.”

With full in-house finishing facilities, Intellecta Strålins is well positioned to offer one-stop services, and is looking at developing its web-to-print capabilities based on its experience with the university work, along with other services made possible by digital printing.
