Goss International highlights productivity and quality advantages for Japanese printers and publishers at JANPS 2009

Tuesday 24. November 2009 - Goss International invites printers and publishers to explore New Ways for Print at its stand (#29, East Hall 6) at JANPS 2009. From the company's wide range of innovative web offset technology, focus is on the Newsliner 4x1 press, the Magnum 4 single-width press and Goss DigiRail digital inking.

“Newspapers in Japan are known for their very high circulation and subscriber rates,” explains Kazuhiko Yasuzawa, president and general manager of Goss Japan. “Whilst this makes high performance a must, in the face of stiff competition from other media, printers and publishers are also focusing more and more on premium quality and flexible product formats to attract new, younger readership. Products across the Goss portfolio – from the highly versatile single-width Magnum 4 press to the highly productive Newsliner press family – can provide the technology and added value to help newspapers compete.”

Operating at speeds up to 90,000 cph, the Newsliner press series is manufactured in Sayama, Japan, and uses proven technology to deliver high performance and flexibility. The latest 4×1 format model rated at 80,000 cph is available with Goss DigiRail digital inking or standard open fountain inking and features a shaftless drive system for operational flexibility as well as precise web tension control from reelstand to folder. The 4×1 format of the press cylinders offers plate saving and cost saving advantages for publishers requiring multi-edition products.

“Goss International continues to make improvements to all its products,” states Yasuzawa. “As an example, we redesigned the plate cylinders for the Newsliner 4×1 press to dramatically reduce deflection and thereby improve registration and print quality. The press is also compact and modular, allowing a host of future enhancement or expansion possibilities.”

Combining flexibility with ease-of-use, high quality and reliable operation, the latest Magnum 4 press builds on experience accumulated from over 40,000 installed units of the Community SSC and Magnum presses. Comprehensive coldset, heatset and UV printing capabilities enable the Magnum 4 press to produce a wide variety of printed products. The Magnum 4 press has also seen improvements recently in the form of a modified N40 jaw. Yasuzawa adds, “Operating at up to 45,000 cph, the Magnum 4 press is ideal for printers of low to mid-circulation publications where flexibility and high net productivity are key.”

Award-winning Goss DigiRail digital inking is available on a range of Goss presses in addition to the Newsliner. The digital inking system consistently delivers precise quantities of ink using gear pumps to feed a stream of accurately metered ink pulses. With auto-preset functions, the DigiRail technology can deliver extremely low start-up waste, with almost no inking adjustments required.

During the four-day exhibition, the Goss International team is available to discuss the complete Goss product range including the latest product developments providing environmental benefits, such as the Goss Ecoset dryer, the Ecobox energy conservation and reutilization system and advanced mailroom systems.
