WoodWing Enterprise 7 – Publishing System for Modern Businesses
Tuesday 13. October 2009 - Extended publishing to social media, new Search 2.0 and "Follow the Reader" feature
WoodWing Software has unveiled the next generation of its Enterprise publishing system. Enterprise 7 offers unprecedented flexibility when it comes to the integration of social media into modern multi-channel publishing environments. Also, the planning of editorial content can now be based on instant analysis of online reader interests, while the new Search 2.0 provides highly relevant results when doing research.
Enterprise 7 comes with Content Station 7, a new version of the client application that provides publishers with the ultimate tool to plan, produce and manage content for multiple destinations.
Community Publishing
Erik Schut, President of WoodWing Software, said, “When it comes to managing and maintaining a community surrounding a brand, the role of social media cannot be overestimated. Publishers need to make social media an integral part of their multi-channel publishing strategy. Our ability to natively support these new channels with Enterprise 7 is unique.”
WoodWing Enterprise 7 can publish to virtually any channel, including Twitter, Flickr, Facebook and YouTube. More traditional channels such as Web, mobile, e-mail, SMS and print are also covered.
Follow the Reader
For the IFRA2009 event in Vienna, a “Follow the Reader” add-on has been created. This new feature provides instant analysis of online visitor behavior. Page views, geographic distribution, time spent and many other statistics are available directly within Content Station. Editors see which stories are successful and can plan new content taking into account the preferences of their readers. This kind of information can be a huge help when it comes to serving new and existing advertisers.
Search 2.0
When doing research, content producers have become adept – and reliant – on searches to find what they need in the vast sea of available content. Enterprise 7 has the open-source Apache Solr search engine on board to keep up with the sophisticated needs of today’s users. The generated Faceted Search results are hits that are classified and grouped, so that the user can easily filter and then review all the results in greater detail.
Anybody who uses the new integrated Visual Search will wonder why searching for the right image has been so hard in the past. After finding one image that may be close to the desired result, the Visual Search engine will analyze colors, textures and shapes to find similar images, without the need for a keyword search.
Smart Catalog Integration
Variable and structured data publishing, for applications such as television programs and event listings, has gotten a boost with the integration of Smart Catalog into Enterprise 7. Smart Catalog enables publishers to link their InDesign pages to an external structured data source. Linked data will appear on the page automatically and formatting is done on-the-fly using pre-set rules. Content updates are as easy as one click of the mouse!
Content Station and Smart Connection Enhancements
In Content Station 7, users will quickly notice the enhanced user-interface when working with Dossiers. Articles within one Dossier are logically grouped together for quick navigation, while the publication channel overview provides a complete summary of all items published to the various channels. Another noteworthy addition is the support of multiple-component articles in the built-in media-neutral text editor.
WoodWing’s advanced Smart Connection plug-ins, which are the foundation for print content producers using InDesign and InCopy, have also been updated with a myriad of features to make working with Dossiers as efficient as possible. The user interface has been further refined based on customer feedback.
Extended Platform Support
On the technical side, Enterprise 7 supports all modern platforms:
OS X 10.6 “Snow Leopard”
Windows 7
Windows Server 2008
Adobe CS4
Overall server performance has increased
Memory footprint has been reduced
Enterprise 7 is scheduled for release in December 2009.
