Another order for Harland Simons Auto Impositioning system
Monday 12. October 2009 - Harland Simon has secured another order for its auto impositioning and color advisory software - PRIMA Esprit and PRIMA ColorWare -from The Houston Chronicle, TX.
The system will not only provide advice on color availability and calculate the best imposition for a given product, but it will also act as the central hub to feed layout and imposition data from the layout department to pre press and press systems. This is achieved through a suite of interfaces to 3rd party systems and eliminates numerous manual processes and the potential for operator error.
Charlie Brackley, Sales Manager for Harland Simon, commented, “For Harland Simon the past three to six months seem in to indicate that our industrys situation is improving. We have seen a significant upturn in the number of enquiries, and this is backed up by the popularity of our Esprit and ColorWare systems. Newspaper executives are once again investigating how investment can produce returns, albeit now on much shorter time scale, rather than simply direct cost cutting.”
Prima Esprit and ColorWare are unlike anything else on the market. They are based on an algorithm that calculates the best way to produce a particular product defined by the presses capabilities and the pressmens preferred printing methods, rather than a catalogue of predefined impositions. The ColorWare system provides color availability and job difficulty information directly or via a 3rd party layout system, eliminating the constant dialogue between the pressroom and the advertising/editorial departments. Once a product is defined it is seamlessly transferred to Esprit, which automatically calculates the best imposition for the press. The imposition can then be passed to CtP and Press Control systems eliminating further time consuming processes.
The system is expected to be running live by November 2009
