EMAS acquires AUTO JOURNAL and SPORT AUTO magazines

Monday 05. October 2009 - Joint enterprise of Mondadori France and Axel Springer France becomes market leader in French auto titles

Editions Mondadori Axel Springer (EMAS), the French joint enterprise of the Mondadori France publishing group and Axel Springer France, is taking over the two auto magazines AUTO JOURNAL and SPORT AUTO from Mondadori France. EMAS will as a result, alongside the leading weekly auto magazine AUTO PLUS, also publish the leading biweekly auto title in future as well as the leading monthly magazine in the sport and luxury vehicle segment. Moreover, with autoplus.fr, EMAS also operates the most successful editorial auto portal in France with more than one million unique users (Nielsen OJD 2008).

Robert Sandmann, Managing Director Axel Springer France: “We are very pleased that EMAS will in future offer three of the most successful French auto titles. Our portfolio of high-quality brands now enables it to also offer joint cross-media marketing and thereby to develop the long term position of EMAS in the advertising market.”

Ernesto Mauri, President Mondadori France: “Through the takeover of AUTO JOURNAL and SPORT AUTO by EMAS we have the opportunity to exploit additional synergies in editorship and marketing as well as to push forward with the digitization of all of our brands.”

Mondadori France and Axel Springer France each hold 50 percent of EMAS, which, through its acquisition of AUTO JOURNAL and SPORTAUTO, has further developed its leading position in the French auto media area and will in future publish three of the five most successful titles in the segment in France. AUTO PLUS has been published by EMAS since 1988. The French edition of AUTO BILD, with a paid circulation of more than 313,000 copies, is the market leader among the auto magazines. The biweekly magazine AUTO JOURNAL has a paid circulation of more than 104,000 copies; the monthly title SPORT AUTO more than 53,000 copies (Nielsen OJD 2008).
