ICC-ES SAVE PROGRAM FIRST TO EVALUATE PRODUCTS TO MULTIPLE GREEN BUILDING RATING SYSTEMS
Tuesday 29. September 2009 - ILEVEL BY WEYERHAEUSER RECEIVES FIRST SAVE VAR ISSUED UNDER EXPANDED REPORT SCOPE
A new, expanded report from the ICC-ES SAVE Program – Sustainable Attributes Verification and Evaluation – is the first of its kind to both verify the sustainability of building materials and determine how the products may qualify for green building points within multiple green building rating systems. iLevel by Weyerhaeuser is the first company to receive this new, expanded Verification of Attributes Report (VAR -1008), which confirms multiple sustainable attributes of its structural framing products and explains how they can be eligible for green building points.
VAR -1008 provides a single, comprehensive source for identifying how a given product or products can potentially contribute to points under one or more green building rating systems. In addition, it provides building professionals with an easy way to see how products fit into complex areas of green building, such as life cycle assessment (LCA).
The green building rating systems, standards and codes included in iLevels VAR are the 2008 National Association of Home Builders and International Code Councils (ICC) National Green Building Standard, U.S. Green Building Councils (USGBC) LEED 2009 for New Construction and Major Renovation (as well as Version 2.2), USGBCs LEED for Homes, 2008 California Green Building Standards Code (Title 24, Part 11), and Green Building Initiatives Green Globes.
In addition to evaluating iLevel products against specific rating system provisions, ICC-ES evaluated them in four of the current SAVE categories: bio-based material content, regional materials or products, air quality emissions, and certified wood content.
“Interpreting green building provisions can prove to be a complicated process,” said Steve Thorsell, ICC-ES Director of Special Projects. “This report is intended to provide additional assistance to builders, designers, specifiers, code officials and manufacturers by verifying the sustainable attributes of the iLevel products and services in putting this information in the context of green rating systems, standards and codes.”
“iLevel and Weyerhaeuser are in the business of sustainable management, but if you say youre green you have to prove it too,” said iLevel Green Buildings Program Director Rob Brooks. “SAVE provides another third-party verification that our products are sustainable and demonstrates to our customers that the products are eligible for multiple green rating systems.”
iLevels full line of engineered wood products and solid sawn lumber are listed in the SAVE VAR, including TJI Joists, TimberStrand Laminated Strand Lumber, Parallam Parallel Strand Lumber, iLevel Edge and Edge Gold OSB floor panels, Microllam Laminated Veneer Lumber, iLevel Framer Series Lumber, iLevel Premium Joists and all other wood structural framing products. VAR -1008 also includes iLevel software programs and support services designed to improve structural frame efficiency and minimize job site wood waste.
