EFI Brings Innovations to Labelexpo Designed to Increase Capacity, Capability and Profitability
Friday 25. September 2009 - Wider, Faster Jetrion 4830 digital label press and Fiery XF ensure higher productivity with advanced colour management
At its largest stand ever for Labelexpo Europe (9H50), EFI is showing, for the first time, its new Jetrion 4830. With a wider web width and faster linear speeds, the new printer increases throughput by over two times compared to the Jetrion 4000. The company is also showcasing updates to its award-winning colour management and Fiery XF production workflow tools. Together with the printer and UV inks, they bring a unique end-to-end solution for digital label production offering more productivity, more cost savings and more profit potential to users.
Jetrion 4830
Powered by the Fiery XF RIP, the new Jetrion 4830 UV Inkjet System provides seamless workflow integration and is capable of advanced spot-colour matching. Its white-ink capability enables printing on clear film, which allows label printers to respond to a more diverse customer base.
The Jetrion 4830 prints 8.3-inches (21 cm) wide, enabling 2-up 4-inch (10 cm) labels. The wider print zone allows label converters to efficiently take on more print jobs. And with its new higher speed print mode of greater than 120 feet per minute (36.6 metres per minute), the new system increases productivity significantly.
Built on the robust Jetrion 4000 industrial platform, the Jetrion 4830 offers proven reliability. The system delivers excellent print quality via advanced greyscale printhead technology and wide-gamut UV inks, giving printers the means to deliver richly coloured labels more cost effectively.
“Purchasing this latest technology will help further strengthen our customer relationships and give us the ability to capitalise on new market opportunities,” said Rick Shaieb, CEO, Whitlam Label Company of Center Line, MI (USA). At Print 09 earlier this month, Whitman Label Company was the first company to buy a Jetrion 4830. “For several years, we have been committed to working with EFI and we value their technology and overall customer service,” he added

Jetrion finishing options
EFIs engineers have designed Jetrion systems with great flexibility in mind when it comes to finishing options. At Labelexpo, the company is demonstrating a semi-rotary die cutter system with SMAG Labcon 350; a laser die cutter with Cartes HS200; as well as showcasing Jetrions unique ability for printing onto pre-die cut labels. This third option is made possible thanks to Jetrions high-precision re-registration capability. As a result, new users can start using the printer before they have finalised their finishing equipment purchase.
Jetrion 4000
Also on EFIs stand is the Jetrion 4000. The first narrow web digital press suited to economically run lengths of 50,000 labels, this is the perfect fit for primary and secondary labels for a variety of markets, such as food and beverage, automotive, electronics, pharmaceutical and many more. The Jetrion 4000 prints on 6.5″ (165 mm) web widths, with a printable width of 5.5″ (139 mm) and can interface with a wide range of converting equipment.
Jetrion 4000 has earned EFI an excellent reputation in the label printing industry. It has enabled the company to build an extensive distributor network as well as a larger installation base across six continents than any other UV inkjet label printing system.
“We are extremely pleased with both our Jetrion 4000s and look forward to seeing what the new 4830 can provide. Our 4000 has been instrumental in allowing us to compete and be successful in markets that we could not venture into earlier,” said Tony Heinl, Executive VP of Repacorp, Tipp City, Ohio, USA.
White Printing
Opacity and print receptiveness of white-ink printing are critical for industries such as pharmaceutical, which require printing on clear films. EFIs custom formulated UV curable inks deliver exceptional performance, offering the first single-pass white with opacity rivaling flexo. Additionally, Jetrions new white can be printed as a background colour for CMYK overprinting.
Fiery XF RIP
The award-winning Fiery XF RIP extends colour accuracy even further with Dynamic Wedge, which defines key colours and ensures accuracy for colour-critical jobs. Enhanced Spot Colour Simulation allows one-click spot-colour matching. And advanced calibration includes linearisation tools using automatic, numerical and visual techniques. EFIs Fiery XF RIP also enables a PDF workflow with EFI XFlow, which includes pre-flight and correction modules for automatic print data optimisation.
Version 4 of EFI Fiery XF also includes a re-linearisation and re-ink-limiting feature, which checks the calibration of output devices and automatically brings it back to its original state when parameters, such as media or ink, change. After analysing the device XF will either launch the re-linearisation or re- ink-limiting/-linearisation for easy and effective printer calibration. This new feature provides a fast and accurate method of ensuring calibration accuracy.
Enhanced spot-colour simulation automatically identifies the ideal output values to provide dead-on spot-colour simulations, with challenging low Delta Es.
Nominated for Label Industry Global Awards 2009
In recognition of their innovative technology and rapid market expansion, Jetrion solutions have been nominated in the Label Industry Award for Continuous Innovation category of the Label Industry Global Awards 2009, taking place on 23 September in Brussels.
EFI Fiery XF Solutions for Epson Stylus Pro WT7900
EFI and Epson (G60, Hall 9).are showing the Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 in connection with EFIs XF solutions, Fiery XF and Colorproof XF. The Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 is the first printer worldwide with water-based white ink designed for packaging proofing and sample printing on a variety of flexible film, paper and metallic media. EFI XF solutions support the printers quality to meet the requirements of the package printing industry. Depending on the application, they can also automate the steps of colour measurement from linearisation, profiling, calibration and optimisation to verification.”
EFI XFlow streamlines production by creating a PDF-based workflow. It standardises all jobs in virtually every file format into Adobe PDF files, eliminating the headaches associated with document preparation. EFI XFlow provides superior colour management, guaranteeing accurate colour on every print regardless of the complexity involved. Its ColorWise Module enables specific and independent treatment of images, text and vector graphics in different colour spaces. In combination with Fiery XF and Colorproof XF workflow automation and colour management, matching of difficult spot colours are easy to achieve.
EFI Digital StoreFront
The web-to-print platform EFI Digital StoreFront is also on display. Digital StoreFront’s unique, customisable shopping platform lets businesses meet customers diverse needs by offering them a unique shopping experience. Site visitors can navigate the full suite of print products and services through one easy-to-use storefront, catalogue environment.
