EMBALLAGES ROOS folds and glues with a VISIONFOLD from BOBST!
Tuesday 15. September 2009 - EMBALLAGES ROOS and BOBST have worked with each other since 1946, when Siegfried Roos travelled down from Crémines, in the Swiss Jura mountains, to Lausanne and bought the companys first BOBST machine, one for diecutting paperboard.
Roos had established a printing works under his own name in 1942, after buying the plant and equipment from its previous owner, and over time both the Roos family and the business grew. Three of Sigfrieds four sons are now part of this printer and carton maker, which became a limited company in 1971 and which, in 1978, was split into two autonomous companies.
Today, the second and third generations of the family are fully committed to these two companies and, despite their apparent independence, cooperation between the businesses is close, particularly when it comes to the purchase of new equipment. The printing plant under Claude Roos and his son Cédric, and the packaging plant overseen by Denis Roos and his sons Thomas, Xavier, and Jean-Denis, are seen as complementary to each other.
Since the very first machines, EMBALLAGES ROOS SA has supplemented its equipment park with a further Emmeci 2004 line to laminate cartonboard boxes and, most recently, has added a BOBST VISIONFOLD folder-gluer.
Denis Roos, whose three sons became shareholders in the business in 2008, says “we concentrate our efforts on the quality of our products and services. Our objective is to hold our course, and that leads us to devote nearly 10% of our sales turnover towards projects that improve performance”. Some twelve people work in the packaging plant, the longest serving having worked with the founder on the first BOBST machine the company bought, and the product range manufactured is very broad, from industrial boxes for companies manufacturing turned products, a specialty of the area, to boxes for clock and watch makers, another specialty of this Swiss Jura. 80 % of the customers of EMBALLAGES ROOS are located within the Jura area, which extends from Geneva to Basel, and is known as the Jurassic arc.
The strength of EMBALLAGES ROOS lies in its capacity to realize very short runs and, in addition to manufacturing boxes, the company has used its know-how to develop original solutions such as protective foam packing for clock and watch makers, promotional boxes, and display units. Other carton makers entrust them with their most difficult work for luxury products.
This target of always making quality products has led quite naturally to EMBALLAGES ROOS seeking out a folder-gluer line which can deliver this, yet would also be multipurpose in order to produce straight-line, crashlock, and 4 & 6 corner cartons, as well as small envelopes. The company also required a machine that was quick and easy to set and the BOBST VISIONFOLD meets these needs. Multipurpose in configuration, it produces all conventional types of work, yet being operator friendly it is among the easiest machines to set and run. 98% of the tools remain on the machine, which reduces make-ready times, and adjustments are carried out with just one tool. Additionally, the gluing systems available on the VISIONFOLD are particularly flexible, which means it can easily adapt to the variety of production at EMBALLAGES ROOS.
With the VISIONFOLD and its modularity, EMBALLAGES ROOS has the tools to achieve its growth targets!
