ProImage FanOut Server a break-through in improving print quality on a web offset press
Monday 17. August 2009 - Digitally compensates for paper stretch
Newspaper productivity software developer, ProImage, has today announced that it is to launch a new product, ProImage FanOut Server, at Publish Asia & IFRA India Expo 2009 (23-25 September, Chennai, India).
The company, which is growing its presence in Asia, states that ProImage FanOut Server overcomes the problem of paper stretch on a web press, and therefore saves waste and significantly improves registration and print quality.
Stretch is caused by several factors including paper tension, ink and water applied to the paper that is moving at high speed, and the distance between cylinders. Up to now, the problem has been partially corrected by the use of Tension (or Bustle) wheels. These are non-linear and are limited to a specific position on the paper.
The ProImage software compensates for paper stretch by the digital scaling of each individual separation (C, M, Y and K) and automatically processing the 1-bit TIFF data for exposure to film or CtP to perfectly correct mis-registration caused by paper expansion. Furthermore, by its unique method of image processing, the ProImage FanOut Server software ensures that punch and bender registration marks are kept unchanged despite the fact that the image size on the plate has been modified.
ProImage FanOut Server software performs precise digital scaling of each separation for the entire plate image, and is said therefore to be a break-through in improving print quality on a web offset press.
Hanan Drory, VP Sales & Marketing Asia, ProImage, said, “Many newspapers, especially in Asia, have old web presses and very long runs, and this innovative software will help them, as well as all other newspaper printers, to improve registration. Advertisers will demand the additional quality that FanOut Server brings.”
