Presstek, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of digital offset printing solutions, today announced that Quick Tab II, a family-owned printing business located in Tiffin, Ohio, has acquired a Presstek 34DI digital offset press to augment its production capability and open new business opportunities. Quick Tab II occupies a 60,000 square foot facility, employs 75, and generates revenues in excess of $9 million.

“Our company has come a long way since it first opened in 1987 as a manufacturer of computer tab cards,” said Mike Daughenbaugh, Vice President of Quick Tab II. “As the market changed over the years, we have diversified our offerings. The acquisition of the Presstek 34DI is another important step in that direction. This slow economic period provides a good opportunity to make investments for the future and the DI press was a critical one for us.” Quick Tab II sells to the trade through a network of 380 distributors nationwide and in Puerto Rico and the Bahamas.

While the firm’s core business is manufacturing checks and forms, adding the Presstek DI press has enabled Quick Tab II to diversify into the commercial print world, producing newsletters, annual reports, sales sheets, brochures and other marketing materials, as well as a growing quantity of four-color envelopes. “Currently, we are only running the press one shift and have had it up and running since early June. The 34DI press is already paying for itself and everyone is completely thrilled with it,” added Daughenbaugh. “We expect to move to a second shift within the next couple of months.”

Quick Tab II acquired the Presstek 34DI press through Pitman, a Presstek dealer, to fill a strategic volume gap between its digital toner-based presses and its conventional offset presses, ranging from 1,500 to 20,000 sheets. The firm was also attracted by the high quality, automation and small environmental footprint of the Presstek DI press and is looking forward to investigating the wide range of substrates the DI press enables, from onion skin to 20-point stock. “This will open up new markets we were not even considering before,” Daughenbaugh said.

“The Daughenbaughs are smart business people,” said Mark Levin, Presstek’s President for the Americas Region. “Their careful analysis of market opportunities and their willingness to invest for the future during a weak economic period bodes well for their continued success. We are proud to be part of that successful future with the installation of the Presstek 34DI digital offset press.”
