MANROLAND GB SPONSORS GO-KARTING PRODIGY

Alfie Brown with manroland GB Managing Director, Norman Revill

Thursday 16. July 2009 - manroland GB has lent its support in the form of sponsorship to ambitious eight year old go-karting prodigy, Alfie Brown - recently nicknamed as Lewis Hamilton’s apprentice by the Sun newspaper, after pictures of the two appeared in the newspaper under the headline "The Master and the Apprentice", and on the Formula One website.

The money from manroland’s sponsorship has been earmarked to provide vital consumables such as Tyres, Oil & Fuel throughout this season and the next. The company’s branding will be displayed on numerous sections of Alfie’s competition kart, racing suit and helmet. Currently competing in the Super One national championships for the Zip Karts Allstar team, Alfie is the championship’s youngest competitor.

Norman Revill, managing director, manroland GB said: “Alfie came to our attention via a colleague in the printservices division and manroland is delighted to be able to support him in pursuing his ambitions. This year, we have proudly sponsored many events, organizations, causes and individuals, inside and outside of the industry, including breast cancer research, PrintIt! and PrintCity Alliance. By all accounts Alfie is a talented young driver and manroland will support him as far as he wants to go in his sport. So we would like to wish him the best of luck for the rest of this season and beyond.”

And Alfie’s certainly in good company at Zip Karts, whose director and former Super Kart world champion, Martin Hines, has previously nurtured the talents of David Coulthard and the reigning Formula One World Champion, Lewis Hamilton. Alfie’s team have attracted the attention of other motorsport organisations, which monitor their progress, including the Racing Steps foundation, which sponsors promising young motorsport talents through secondary and further education implemented by the MSA (motor sport association).

Jay Brown, Alfie’s father, said: “manroland’s generous sponsorship is a welcome boost to Alfie’s go-karting ambitions and I want to thank them for getting on board. It doesn’t just support him in his sport, but educationally too, because as long as he’s involved in go-karting then there are opportunities for sponsorship through secondary and further education. Alfie’s progress has been remarkable: In the space of 6 months competing against experienced national drivers Alfie has a best novice trophy, two 1st place, one 3rd and a 5th place trophies at the Shennington Super prix. His ambitions have gone from simply competing to setting his sights on the British championship. And with more support like that shown by manroland, he genuinely sees no reason why he couldn’t realise that ambition.”
