NEWMAN NV2 LABELLER DELIVERS VERSATILITY AND IMPROVED 1ST PASS YIELD TO ENZON
Monday 06. July 2009 - Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has purchased an NV2 fully automatic, self-adhesive labelling system from Newman Labelling Systems for its facility in Indianapolis, USA.
Enzon Pharmaceuticals is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development, manufacturing and commercialisation of medicines for patients with cancer and other life-threatening conditions. Enzon also engages in contract manufacturing for several pharmaceutical companies.
The NV2 labelling system has been supplied by Newman for this installation with a sophisticated Optel Vision System for overprint verification and Barcode reading together with a Markem laser coding device for batch numbering and expiry date coding. It has been purchased by Enzon as a replacement for an old 6VA Newman machine which will be transferred to another packaging line for cancer drugs.
David Coles, Manufacturing Supervisor at Enzon Pharmaceuticals, explains the company’s decision to opt for the NV2: “The Newman NV2 was chosen based on its specifications / ability to meet Enzon’s current and future labeling needs. Its versatility allows us to label vials ranging from 2ml – 50ml. Additionally, we have had a solid work history with Newman, who had provided service / parts for the previous 6VA unit.”
The NV2 will be operated at speeds up to 140cpm and, although being used at Enzon for glass vials up to 50ml, it is able to handle a wide range of container shapes and sizes up to 150mm.
Change over between different containers is extremely quick with the NV2 – usually without change parts – and was seen as a key benefit by Enzon: “The labeler interface is quite simple to navigate and the operator can easily change-over from product to product within a few minutes” states David. “The new labeling system has also significantly increased product throughput / 1st pass yield.”
