Giesecke & Devrient Wins Coveted red dot design award for its Numeron Person-Machine Interface (PMI)

Wednesday 01. July 2009 - Giesecke & Devrient’s Numeron person-machine interface (PMI) received an "honorable mention" at this year’s red dot design awards ceremony.

The expert jury began bestowing this commendation in 2008 as a means of highlighting particularly successful product design details. The Numeron’s previous keyboard has been replaced with a high-grade color touchscreen that incorporates graphic icons. When designing the PMI, Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) placed great emphasis on ergonomics and user-friendliness.

“Ergonomics is an increasingly important aspect of PMI design which is gaining in significance in the marketplace and adds considerable customer value. The coveted red dot design award is a major accolade and confirms that we are setting the right priorities,” says Ralf Wintergerst, Head of G&D’s Banknote Processing division.

Since the symbols on the color touchscreen are self-explanatory and language-independent, it is simpler for users to operate the new interface. The menu choices are clear and easy to follow.

The Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen in Essen has been presenting the red dot design award since 1955. It is recognized as one of the largest and most renowned design competitions in the world. This year, around 1,400 companies from 49 countries submitted a total of 3,231 entries. The Numeron person-machine interface will be exhibited at the red dot design museums in Essen and Singapore for a year.
