callas software announces pdfToolbox 4 bringing high performance and ease-of-use
Monday 29. June 2009 - callas software today announced pdfToolbox 4.3, the fourth major upgrade of its powerful all-in-one PDF production toolkit. Right on time to keep the promise for a quarterly new release of its pdfToolbox 4 product range, the innovations include new features, still greater ease-of-use and a greater performance.
Adding ease-of-use
The layer viewer that manages and generates layer views was introduced in the previous version of pdfToolbox 4. Currently it is still the only tool in the industry to generate layers views (OCCD) in accordance with PDF/X-4. callas software now introduces a new feature that allows users to create a single PDF from the different layers or layer views within the PDF. So in a multi-language print job, you can not only create and view the various language versions, but even get a PDF for every version – with one click.
Further improvements include:
pdfToolbox 4s imposition engine permits to place dynamic text on imposed pages, making it possible to create slug lines with job information on the imposed sheet.
Swiss PDFX- ready profiles (based on GWG version 4 specs) were included and localized for all supported languages.
Extended overprint and knockout fixup for complete control of the overprinting behaviour.
Updates of DeviceLink profiles for producing more harmonized conversions, especially in dark areas.
Support of the latest ICC profiles recently released by ECI
Adding performance
In an automated environment, splitting and merging is one of the required tasks, be it for imposition preparation, separating page-ranges for different processing or extraction of certain pages for various use. As a new feature, pdfToolbox Server 4.3 enables to split a PDF files in smaller segments, and to merge multiple files into one single PDF. Thus pdfToolbox Server 4 overcomes the limitations of automated splitting or merging through Acrobat, which for quite a number of users has turned out to be too fragile an integration in a fully automated workflow.
pdfToolbox 4 continues to be available as a desktop and a server version. The desktop version was optimized for use as a plug-in for Adobe Acrobat, but now the user can also choose to run pdfToolbox 4 as an independent application. The stand-alone is a great tool to preflight and prepare your PDF files, even with older versions of Adobe Acrobat, Acrobat Standard or Reader or any other PDF-viewer. It performs practically the same corrections that are available in the plug-in.
For integration in other environments, callas pdfToolbox 4 is available as callas pdfToolbox CLI 4 (Command Line Interface) and as callas pdfToolbox SDK 4 (Software Development Kit).
