Italian Printers Impress Judges at 2009 FESPA Digital Print Awards

Monday 15. June 2009 - Italian printers made a strong impact at the 2009 FESPA Digital Print Awards, receiving commendations in the Interior, Packaging & Manufactured Goods, and Vehicle categories.

The competition was open to printers from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa and attracted more than 200 entries, which were evaluated by an independent jury. The winners were announced on the eve of the FESPA Digital 2009 exhibition (12 -14th May 2009) in Amsterdam. One winner and one runner-up were selected for each of the six categories, and an additional 11 entries were commended by the jury.

En-Ca from Sienna received a commendation in the Interior Category for its Ing Puzzle produced for client Best Solution Agency-Siena. Printed using EFI’s VUTEk PressVu UV 200 digital inkjet flatbed printer, En-Ca created an eye-catching three-dimensional puzzle advertisement for audiences during half-time at basketball matches. With the collaboration of the cheerleaders, the puzzle pieces (3D blocks) fit together easily to display the advert.

Arzano-based Rex Pubblicità received a commendation in the Packaging & Manufactured Goods Category for its Rubbish Containers project created for customers Green Line and Coffee Shop Columbus. Digitally printed using the Zünd UVjet 215-C flat bed UV printer, Rex Pubblicità made a series of rubbish containers, differentiated according to the size and type of rubbish. Consideration was also given to the aesthetics of the containers, in order to blend in with the environmental surroundings while also serve as an advertising platform.

Mycrom Srl of Turin was commended in the Vehicle Category for its 500 Diabolika Limited Edition project for the company’s Mycrom Design Collection. Inspired by the famous Italian comic Diabolika, the project was born from an idea by Mycrom owner Alessandro Imoda, a fan of the comic series. The first company to digitally print directly onto leather and textiles for automotive interiors, Mycrom used the Dupont Artistri 2020 digital textile printer to realise the project.

Commenting on the Italian printers’ success, Nigel Steffens, FESPA CEO, said: “We are extremely pleased with the response that we’ve had from Italian printers at this year’s FESPA Digital Print Awards. Overall, Italy had the fourth highest number of entries and it’s great to see them producing high quality work and creative solutions for their customers.
