Community joins forces for World Environment Day
Monday 08. June 2009 - Alcoa Anglesea will celebrate World Environment Day by joining forces with Parks Victoria and Anglesea Primary School on Friday, 5 June.
The group will remove boneseed weed from the Anglesea Heath between 9 – 11am. Boneseed is a non-native weed of national significance, known for its aggressive invasion of Australian bushland and is regarded as one of the worst weeds in Australia.
Alcoa Anglesea Acting Manager Chris Rolland said the Anglesea Heath, co-managed by Alcoa and Parks Victoria, required a significant effort to ensure the ongoing management and nurturing of the areas biodiversity.
“Its great to come together with groups like Parks Victoria and the senior students at Anglesea Primary School, who have shown interest in preserving the area and participating in these kinds of events,” he said.
“This is another example of the strong environmental link we share with the primary school and the local community.
“Caring for the wellbeing of the Anglesea Heath and the environment in general is of the highest priority for Alcoa and World Environment Day is a fantastic event to highlight this.”
Meanwhile, Alcoa Anglesea employees will also celebrate World Environment Day by planting trees onsite at the entrance to the power station in the afternoon.
