Axel Springer Poland and business publisher Infor PL establish joint venture

Tuesday 02. June 2009 - Axel Springer Poland and the Polish business publisher Infor PL have established a joint venture. Axel Springer Poland acquires 49 percent of the shares in Infor Biznes, a subsidiary of Infor PL, which publishes Gazeta Prawna, the leading Polish business newspaper. Axel Springer is bringing the title DZIENNIK and the online portal dziennik.pl into the joint venture.

The goal of the co-operation is to amalgamate both titles into a new quality daily newspaper from the autumn of 2009. This new paper will offer a broader spectrum of content and unite the editorial strengths of DZIENNIK (politics, culture, sport) and Gazeta Prawna (business, law). The new title will therefore become even more attractive for both readers and advertisers in the future.

Florian Fels, Managing Director of Axel Springer Poland: “Through the joint venture we are pooling the strengths and competences of two strong brands. This will improve our market potential in a highly competitive environment and places us a good position from which we can be even more successful in the future.”

Ryszard Pienkowski, the owner of Infor PL: “This transaction is also another step in executing our internet strategy of Infor PL. The co-operation between three web services – dziennik.pl, forsal.pl and gazetaprawna.pl – will be a very attractive market offer.”

The transaction is subject to approval by the competent antitrust authority.
