Eastman Announces New Additive for Biodiesel Formulations

Wednesday 27. May 2009 - New BioExtend 30 HP receives ‘no-harm’ certification by AGQM

Eastman Chemical Company announces the introduction of its new Eastman BioExtend 30 HP additive for biodiesel formulations. BioExtend 30 HP has received ‘No-Harm’ certification in third-party testing commissioned by AGQM, Germany, and is a registered fuel additive with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Third party testing* of biodiesel additives results in no harm certification for BioExtend 30 HP. This certification is based on predetermined criteria for compatibility with biodiesel and B-10 blends; engine oil compatibility; engine nozzle fouling, the effect on safety characteristics of biodiesel; and compatibility with diesel additives. This certification coupled with the excellent performance of BioExtend 30 HP in the product efficiency testing makes BioExtend 30 HP the product of choice for improving the oxidative stability of biodiesel and blends up to B10.

“Eastman BioExtend 30 HP is a result of research and development efforts to assist customers in meeting ever increasing fuel regulations,” says Nancy Kinkade, technical associate in Eastman’s performance chemicals business organization. “We developed BioExtend 30 HP to meet increasing customer demand for a highly effective ‘No-Harm’ certified biodiesel.”

Eastman BioExtend 30 HP is a dual functionality system that combines one of the most effective antioxidants with a chelating agent. The antioxidant has known efficacy in vegetable oils and is the same antioxidant used in Eastman BioExtend 30 since 2007. The chelator has an excellent history of use in fuel additives and offers protection against the detrimental effect on oxidative stability of metals contamination. Eastman BioExtend 30 HP is a lower odor, and higher flashpoint alternative to BioExtend 30. BioExtend 30 HP’s proprietary solvent system results in a low viscosity product with excellent biodiesel miscibility for ease of use. The convenience of low concentrations enables a quality biodiesel product while ensuring good initial and long-term oxidative stability.
