Citrix Extends NetScaler MPX Line Adding New Appliances for Smaller Enterprises

Friday 22. May 2009 - Three New MPX Appliances Provide Unmatched Price-Performance Advantages for Customers of All Sizes

Today at the Interop 2009 conference in Las Vegas, Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CTXS) announced the addition of three new appliance models to its powerful Citrix NetScaler MPX product line. The new NetScaler MPX 9500 and MPX 7500 appliances offer significant price-performance enhancements for mid-to-large enterprises, while the new MPX 5500 brings the advanced, high-performance NetScaler MPX architecture within reach of smaller enterprises for the first time ever. Best known for accelerating and securing the world’s largest consumer web applications and cloud-based services with its high-end models, the newly-expanded NetScaler MPX product line now meets the price-performance demands of enterprises of all sizes. The new models provide the same rich feature set available in high-end NetScaler MPX solutions, but at a price point that is more advantageous to smaller enterprises. They also provide the perfect complement to the newly announced NetScaler VPX virtual appliance (See related announcement), bringing maximum deployment flexibility to the broadest range of customers.

The new NetScaler MPX appliances offer performance ranging from 500 Mbps of layer seven throughput, up to a maximum of three Gbps. With its market leading price-performance, NetScaler MPX is ideal for organizations requiring enterprise-class application security, acceleration, availability and offload capabilities, but faced with increasing budget constraints and limited data center capacity. The new MPX 5500 model, for example, is priced at less than half the cost of other leading web application delivery appliances. Because they are based on standard Intel hardware, NetScaler MPX appliances also make it easy for customers to add new capabilities in software as they are released, allowing them to scale NetScaler performance as their application needs expand without complex and expensive hardware upgrades.

“The web applications common in small organizations are not that different from those prevalent in large enterprises. In fact, these businesses often have more intensive web application delivery requirements, but the problem is that they also need a more affordable price point,” said Klaus Oestermann, group vice president and general manager of the NetScaler Product Group. “The Citrix NetScaler MPX models will enable smaller companies to tap the power of NetScaler technology and provide solid investment protection.”

All three new NetScaler MPX models are based on multi-core Intel processors, making them ideal for running multiple features concurrently while maintaining maximum application performance. Such high capacity processing enables IT organizations to simplify their infrastructure by consolidating multiple single-function devices, such as load balancers, application firewalls and SSL VPN gateways, into a single NetScaler MPX appliance. A fully loaded NetScaler MPX 7500, for example, requires only 450 watts and one datacenter rack space to deliver the same functionality that would typically consumer four times as much power using a combination of standalone appliances. In addition to saving money, this enhances corporate environmental initiatives by creating a smaller total footprint in the datacenter, while significantly reducing overall power and cooling requirements.

Pricing and Availability
NetScaler MPX 5500 and 7500 will be available in the second quarter of 2009. NetScaler MPX 9500 will be available in the third quarter of 2009. Suggested pricing starts at $12,000 for the MPX 5500 series.
