Presstek 34DI Press Installed at New York Commercial Printer, Printing Spectrum
Friday 15. May 2009 - Large shop chooses Presstek DI digital offset press to further customer retention and customer acquisition goals
Presstek, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRST), a leading manufacturer and marketer of digital offset printing solutions, today announced that Printing Spectrum, a 65-employee commercial printer with 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space in New York and Texas, has chosen the Presstek 34DI digital offset press to augment its 40-inch offset press manufacturing capacity.
“One of the reasons I joined Presstek,” said Mark Levin, Pressteks President of the Americas Region, “was a firm belief that the Companys product line had broader appeal, not only in the small commercial print market that we had been targeting, but also in the larger printing enterprises. Printing Spectrum is an example which further validates that belief. James Altebrando and his team at Printing Spectrum have been able to leverage their new Presstek 34DI press to make their 40-inch presses more efficient. In addition, they have also been able to expand their share of their customers print requirements, while at the same time opening the door for new applications and revenue streams.”
Presstek DI presses offer both conventional offset and digital printers the most profitable solution for meeting the demand for quick turnaround, high quality color printing in runs from 250 to 20,000. These environmentally friendly, easy-to-use digital offset presses image all four plates on press in precise register. Their highly automated functions allow printers to produce more jobs in less time with an extremely low level of makeready waste. With a waterless press design and operating speed of up to 20,000 letter-size pages per hour, these presses offer all-digital workflow efficiency with offset printing versatility and quality.
“Our customers were increasingly asking us for an initial short run for market testing and other purposes that would ultimately be followed with longer runs,” said James Altebrando, President of Printing Spectrum. With the Presstek DI press in place, Altebrando is able to meet these requirements competitively and cost-effectively, eliminating the need to choose between running the work at a loss, or walking away from it.
“We acquired the DI press through Pressteks dealer, Pitman,” Altebrando says, “because we have a long-standing relationship with them and liked the idea of having everything come from a single source.” Altebrando also points out that the ability to deliver 300 dpi printing for these shorter runs was critical to the decision. The press was installed in early April 2009. Altebrando is now also able to expand his sales efforts to include smaller businesses that especially need short-run printing.
“Partnering with a distribution channel is another important aspect of our go-to-market strategy,” adds Levin. “This allows us to leverage many long-standing customer relationships to further educate the marketplace about the value of adding Presstek DI digital offset presses to the production platforms of printing operations of all sizes.”
