PolyOne to Present Expanded Portfolio at Elmia Polymer 2009
Wednesday 15. April 2009 - PolyOne Corporation (NYSE:POL) will be exhibiting its latest colorants, additives, engineered materials, services and solutions at the Elmia Polymer exhibition (Stand: B01:60) on May 5-8, in Jonköping, Sweden.
Technology platforms and products being featured at Elmia Polymer 2009 include:
* GLS OnFlex BIO series compounds based on natural resources
* LubriOne self-lubricating compounds
* OnCap termite and rodent repellent additive concentrates
* OnColor L liquid color concentrates
* OnCap BIO additive concentrates for use with biopolymers
* Biopolymer compounds for injection molding applications
* Maxxam FR RoHS-compliant, flame-retardant polypropylene compounds
* An expanded and enhanced thermoplastic elastomers portfolio covering 356 grades of GLS OnFlex, Dynalloy, Dynaflex, Versollan and Versalloy brand TPEs.
Extended TPE technology platform
PolyOnes acquisition of GLS Corporation has expanded the Companys specialty TPE technologies and offers customers several benefits, including a broader range of products, services and solutions, and easier access to specialized, high-growth markets around the globe. Together with GLS OnFlex TPEs developed originally by PolyOne, this full portfolio of TPE solutions offers unprecedented design freedom. Specific products on display will include:
* SBS and SEBS styrene-block-copolymers
* Polyolefin-elastomer blends
* Thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs), polyolefins with cross-linked EPDM
* Thermoplastic urethanes (TPUs)
* Halogen-free, flame-retardant thermoplastic elastomer compounds, based on a patent-pending formulation, which can replace conventional, halogenated TPEs with no tooling rework or performance tradeoffs.
* GLS OnFlex BIO Series soft thermoplastic polyurethane (TPE-U) compounds made from renewable natural sources and based on at least 20% renewable material as certified by ASTM-D6866.
* Wire and cable applications covering several new grades: standard extrusion applications, high UV resistance, heat stabilization for insulation, and flame retardant family for insulation and jacketing.
Custom grades for specific application and processing targets will also be featured. To meet environmental targets, pre-colored grades are made without heavy metals.
Customer-focused products for application-specific needs
PolyOne will exhibit these products that offer solutions for improving performance across a variety of markets.
* LubriOne self-lubricating compounds have low coefficient of friction and improved wear resistance properties, and are available in a range of reinforcements and base engineering resins.
* Maxxam FR flame-retardant polypropylene grades blend toughness and chemical resistance with low moisture absorption and improved mechanical and impact properties to deliver a beneficial cost-performance ratio. They find use in a wide range of applications and markets, including electronics, consumer durables, wire & cable, and transportation.
* OnCap termite repellent additive concentrate and OnCap rodent repellent additive concentrate, available in free-flowing pellet form, feature a non-hygroscopic active substance with no leaching under typical usage conditions.
* OnColor L liquid colorants complement the well established ComPETe solid masterbatch range for use in PET bottles and sheet extrusion, together offering the most extensive range of solutions for PET coloring on the market. PolyOnes liquid colorants offer excellent shelf life and maximum coloring power. They can be introduced downstream in the manufacturing process, resulting in faster color changeover. PolyOnes liquid colorants are manufactured and distributed globally.
A sustainable future at hand
PolyOne development efforts have also yielded three entrants in the growing bio-based polymer category:
* OnCap BIO AF anti-fog additive concentrate is based on 100% renewable resources and is designed to resist fogging on film packaging, which improves shelf appearance and extends shelf life.
* OnCap BIO IM is a transparent impact modified masterbatch for polylactic acid (PLA) that increases the impact resistance of the base polymer while maintaining transparency.
* PHBV-based biopolymer compounds (polyhydroxybutyrate-valerate copolymer) are developed from renewable resources. Design Ideas Ltd., a world-leading innovator in home and office accessories, uses a proprietary version to make its EcoGen bathroom accessories. Standard glass-filled grades are also available.
