Le Courrier Picard Increases Workflow Efficiency

Wednesday 08. April 2009 - ProImage NewsWay providing enhanced integration and automation.

ProImage has today announced that Le Courrier Picard, based in Amiens, northern France, has installed ProImage NewsWay version 5.2 as it’s workflow solution. NewsWay replaces a legacy Monopresse MonoLink system.

To improve efficiency the newspaper wanted to increase production flexibility and speed, and this has been successfully achieved by better automating and controlling its print production workflow.

Enabling this, NewsWay has provided the newspaper with end-to-end automation. The solution now automatically manages pages and plate pairing all the way through the production process, from an Atex Hermes pre-press system to Kodak computer-to-plate devices.

Le Courrier Picard, a daily newspaper with 297,000 readers, was founded in 1944 and was the first newspaper in Picardie. Today it publishes six daily editions: four editions for the Somme ‘department’, one for L’Aisne and one for L’Oise.

A pagination plan for each edition is sent from Hermes – pages are then received by NewsWay – and all the relevant page versions are created according to the plan, including the automatic addition of the page folio. Depending upon the pagination plan, Newsway manages the colour/ monochrome conversion when sending the plate image to PDFServer. The plate is then RIPed and automatically sent to the CtP machines for output according to the edition’s priority, making sure that plates are ready when required. The process reports errors and is achieved with a minimum of human intervention.

NewsWay was supplied to Le Courrier Picard by SP3i, ProImage’s exclusive partner in France.
