Domino to Show Latest Coding Technologies at ACHEMA 2009

G-Series Thermal Ink Jet printer

Friday 03. April 2009 - Domino is set to line-up its D-Series plus scribing laser system and G-Series thermal ink jet printer as part of its new products showcase at ACHEMA 2009 in Frankfurt, Germany.

Both systems are designed to reproduce high-quality variable data on products and product packaging within the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors and meet the ever-present need to address changing industry trends in coding and marking applications. In particular the new introductions respond to the widespread migration from linear barcodes to 2D codes for unique identification.

Importantly, Domino’s latest system technologies support different kinds of application needs, including unique EPC serial numbers, 2D data matrix codes and RFID technology – thereby guaranteeing flexible, secure and readily available coding and identification solutions from product to pallet.

New G-Series Thermal Ink Jet printer
Of key benefit to manufacturers is the G-Series’ ability to meet the ever-increasing requirements for improved quality and high speed printing onto an expanding and diverse array of substrates, thanks to impressive 600dpi resolution and speeds of up to 300 m/min.
Thanks to Domino’s unique position as the only supplier to offer a multi-substrate, fast-drying ink, the G-Series expands the range of compatible print materials, while opening up new application possibilities for manufacturers. The capability to quickly switch between water- and ethanol-based inks enables printing onto porous and non-porous materials and sets the G-Series apart from other TIJ solutions, which are typically restricted to slower-drying, water-based options.

Next generation of laser coding solutions: the new D-Series plus
Domino’s highly versatile range of D-Series plus industrial scribing lasers has been designed to provide high quality codes across a wide range of production speeds.

Key to the appeal of the new Domino D-Series plus is its flexibility of application, afforded by the modular nature of its design, which allows flexible laser head orientations for easy integration in multiple directions. The controller box and Ethernet web server are contained within a single housing, which is compatible with the standard 19-inch rack systems commonly found in industrial settings and more particularly within the control cabinet of packaging machines. Ethernet connectivity means that the user interface can be integrated via the main control panel of the host machine for OEM installations or for retrofits, an additional Domino colour touchscreen panel can be supplied.

Domino lasers also have the widest mark window and duty cycle performance in their class, providing numerous options for complex code, real time data as well as track & trace applications, which allow a complete data identification over the whole supply chain.

The D-Series plus is ideal for marking on to a variety of substrates including paper, cartons, plastics and glass. It is designed to print high quality codes across a wide range of production speeds up to 400m/min, in a variety of fonts from 0.5mm to 180mm high.

Thorsten Foecking, Product Director for Domino’s laser product range, says, “The D-series plus range will improve overall equipment effectiveness for our customers by allowing maximum uptime. The intuitive set-up is designed to reduce operator errors, leading to minimum changeover times.”

Regulatory compliance
Aligned with ever-increasing EU regulatory requirements, Domino’s flexible and reliable coding solutions ensure compliance with IFAH (International Federation of Animal Health) batch labelling and with the EFPIA (European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations) serial labelling regulations.

To ensure true track & trace capability it is necessary to administer product transport, product coding and code verification (with a camera) via a software module. Domino offers such a software solution with its Control Pharma software package, implemented by its partner, Bosch Packaging, for its CPS pharmaceutical product.

As well as on its own stand, Domino’s integrated laser-/inkjet coding solutions can be seen at the following OEM stands during ACHEMA:

* Uhlmann Pac-Systeme / Uhlmann VisioTec, Hall 3.0, Stand D1-G7
* Robert Bosch GmbH Packaging Technology, Hall 3.1, Stand F2-J11
