Wyndeham Gait Sales Director to retire after 55 years
Friday 27. March 2009 - Peter Wheatley, Sales Director at Wyndeham Gait will retire this month after more than 55 years service with the sheet-fed printing company in Grimsby.
Peter, 70, began his career as an apprentice compositor at Albert Gait Printers in 1953 and rose through the ranks to join the board of directors in 1974. He was instrumental in setting up Gaits computer typesetting business in 1975, where the company developed a specialism for the data conversion, typesetting and printing of timetables for the transport sector, a reputation which it still holds today. Peter then moved into sales and estimating and became Sales Director in 1983 prior to Albert Gait Printers joining the Wyndeham Press Group in 1993.
Michael Gait, Managing Director of Wyndeham Gait said: “Peter has been an invaluable member of our board here for many years. His technical knowledge together with his understanding of our customers and markets has helped to influence our investment decisions and the direction in which the company has moved. I am sure that he will be personally missed by many of our customers. We have allocated his accounts to both our Sales Manager, Kevin Hopcroft, and a team from within our factory in order that the change is as seamless as possible for our customers”.
Peter Wheatley, Sales Director said:
“When I started out in the 1950s Mr Caxton himself would have felt at home in our composing department, whereas today its a case of running to stand still. The industry is rapidly changing but there are lots of interesting opportunities on the horizon and I believe the company still has a great future. I shall miss the many friends I have made in the industry and miss my loyal and dedicated colleagues.”
From a family owned printer founded in 1860 Wyndeham Gait has built a formidable reputation for producing high quality materials for the government and public sector, education, transport, travel and commercial markets. The company runs 3 B1 sheet-fed presses specialising in single, 2 colour and 4 colour print producing technical manuals and promotional literature, alongside in house perfect binding and saddle stitching.
