Goss International focuses on continued success in Italy at Grafitalia 2009
Tuesday 24. March 2009 - Success of Universal and Uniliner newspaper presses in Italy to be highlighted; Close to 100 Sunday and M-600 press units installed in Italy since 1995
Goss International is highlighting its position as a leading supplier of newspaper and commercial web offset presses at Grafitalia this year. With a large installed base and a positive reaction to new technology in the region, Goss International continues to promote its New Ways for Print philosophy and support customers in today’s changing world of print.
“Our focus on product development and adding value to provide competitive advantages for customers has been a particular success with Italian printers and publishers,” comments Eric Bell, marketing manager at Goss International. “Italy has broken new ground with the installation of the world’s first true 96-page press, the Sunday 5000, and continual development of both the Universal and Uniliner press series has maintained each press’ position at the cutting edge of technology. This has resulted in sales of more than 800 Universal and Uniliner press units and 40 folders in Italy alone.”
Some of the new features available on the Goss Universal or Uniliner presses include semi-automatic plate changing, automatic web-width changing, enhanced dampener control and T90 configuration options. Sinapse interactive training simulators are also now available as an option, enabling crews to quickly learn to operate the presses at maximum efficiency.
Bell noted that several printers using M-600 systems, Sunday 4000 and Sunday 5000 systems are well established as market leaders in Italy in the high-quality 16-page sector and the high-pagination double-circumference sector respectively. “Italian printers have been leaders in the move to higher pagination single-web press formats with up to 96 pages, confirms Bell. “At the other end of the spectrum, sheetfed printer Chinchio Industria Grafica recently selected a 16-page M-600 system as its first web press.”
As a part of the New Ways for Print theme, Goss International is showcasing its recently launched web offset dryer. The Ecoset dryer, based on industry-leading Goss Ecocool technology, provides considerable cost savings and environmental benefits. New design enhancements can reduce energy consumption and emissions by 50 percent or more.
The Goss M-600 press and the Sunday series are also in the spotlight at Grafitalia, and Goss International has provided a continuous stream of supporting innovations for each of the presses. In 1995, the Autoplate plate changing technology was introduced as an option for M-600 presses. Today, every M-600 press in Italy has been installed with this fully automatic system. The Autoplate technology is also available on the gapless Sunday press. Other features available for both M-600 and Sunday press systems are Automatic Transfer (AT) options, Contiweb FD pasters, Ecocool dryers and Goss digital workflow tools for automated operation.
In October 2007 Goss International announced that it would develop the world’s first true 96-page press as part of the Sunday press series. Italian printer Mazzucchelli, based in Seriate, ordered the first Sunday 5000 press, which is due to go into production this Spring. The 2860 mm (112 inch) web width allows 96 full A4 magazine pages to be printed per cylinder revolution at up to 40,000 impressions per hour. Gapless blanket technology eliminates the vibrations associated with blanket gaps, enabling the press to maintain high speeds and excellent print quality with the wider cylinder configuration.
