Monday 09. March 2009 - Metso has concluded the employee negotiations that commenced on 20.1.2009 regarding Mining and Construction Technology personnel in Tampere and Helsinki, Finland. The negotiations affected all employees of Metso Minerals, Inc, a total of approximately 1,200 persons.
As the result of the negotiations completed yesterday, there will be 112 redundancies. Twenty-nine of the redundancies concern blue-collar employees and 83 concern white-collar employees. The redundancies will be implemented by the end of March. The temporary layoffs will apply for a fixed period or until further notice, depending on the workload in each department. These measures are a consequence of the reduction in the companys order book and reduced operating levels resulting from the global market situation, as well as the need to reorganize specific company operations. The one-time costs related to these arrangements are not expected to be material for Metso.
Metso employs approximately 1,300 people in its mining and construction technology operations. Metso personnel in Finland total approximately 9,300.
