Monday 16. February 2009 - Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) will be presenting its new SkySIM card platform at this year’s GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (Hall 8, Stand B65).

The outstanding feature of this innovative JavaTM-based product line for SIM cards is its exceptional flexibility. The SkySIM platform gives network operators a multitude of advantageous new openings for implementing innovative customer applications and strengthening their position in the competitive market. The new product line fits in seamlessly with G&D’s extensive SIM card portfolio.

Giesecke & Devrient has added yet another product line to its successful portfolio of SIM card platforms. The company will be presenting its new SkySIM at this year’s GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The outstanding feature of this JavaTM-based product line, equipped with flash memory, is its exceptional flexibility. Its designers have paid particular attention to aspects of the product that will enable network operators to respond to new customer requirements within the shortest possible time. This will help them to differentiate their service strategy and gain a decisive lead on their competitors. The use of innovative flash memory technology allows the SIM card configuration to be customized (e.g. by integrating a SIM browser or other 3rd-party applications) up to the last minute before the actual production process begins. These advantages, in conjunction with a high-performance, scaleable JavaTM operating system, make SkySIM suitable for all areas of utilization that require modern SIM cards capable of meeting the most demanding specifications.

The new SkySIM, like all G&D SIM product lines, is conceived as a family comprising several variants that at present offers a choice between 64, 128 and 256 Kbytes memory capacity. The memory configuration can be selected dynamically by the customer, enabling them to migrate flexibly from one memory size to the next without having to re-qualify the entire card. Existing, qualified card configurations are readily transferable to other memory capacities. This significantly reduces the time otherwise needed to prepare a SIM card launch.
