Printing Industry Overview March 18-20, 2009 Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, California
Friday 13. February 2009 - The printing industry is among the largest employers in today's economy, but knowing how the components of this complex process fit together can be a challenge! Learn how inspiration turns into printed products during this dynamic workshop full of hands-on labs and demonstrations.
Who Should Attend:
Newly hired sales and customer support personnel, graphic designers and art directors, administrative staff or anyone else needing a clear picture of how today’s printing and publishing industry operates.
Day 1 Program: Sales, Service and Prepress
This program reveals how projects destined for ink on paper move from graphic design to the printshop’s computer graphics specialists, and explains the crucial role that salespeople and customer support personnel play in that process. We will also examine the new technologies and business practices that are reshaping the relationship between print buyers and suppliers.
Day 2 Program: Offset and Flexo Printing
This exciting program offers ample hands-on experiences with both offset and flexo presses, and examines the important role of substrates (paper) and inks. We’ll also compare flexo and offset with other widely used printing methods, including digital printing, letterpress and screen printing.
Day 3 Program: Digital Print and Postpress
During this final day, we’ll examine the exciting new world of “print on demand” as well as those essential processes that occur after the presses have stopped running: paper folding, binding, die cutting and more. Many printers have also introduced mailing and fulfillment services, so this program will explain how these ventures complement your company’s existing print capabilities.
