Fred Baumgartner to head new Paper Chemicals division at BASF

The Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, Ludwigshafen, has appointed Dr. Ehrenfried (Fred) Baumgartner (56) as head of its new Paper Chemicals division with effect from April 1, 2009. Stefano Pigozzi (45), who is currently responsible for the department Glues & Impregnating Resins Europe, is to succeed Baumgartner as head of BASFs Inorganics division.
Fred Baumgartner was born in Bromskirchen, Germany in 1952. From 1974 onward, he studied chemistry at the Freie Universität Berlin, from which he also received a doctorate. After working for Röhm GmbH in Darmstadt and for Cyro Industries in the United States, Baumgartner joined BASF in 1986. After holding a number of positions in plastics research and plastics marketing, also in Singapore and Korea, Baumgartner was appointed head of BASFs Engineering Plastics division. He assumed responsibility for the Styrenics division in 2001 before becoming head of the Inorganics division in 2006.
Stefano Pigozzi was born in Rome, Italy. After studying business administration in St. Gallen, Pigozzi joined BASFs Finance division in Ludwigshafen in 1987. Subsequently he held a number of functions in marketing and sales for plastics in Germany, the United States and Italy. In 2001, Pigozzi returned to Ludwigshafen to head the department Foam Products Europe. He has been responsible for the department Glues & Impregnating Resins Europe since 2004.
