Kofax to Provide Switzerland?s Fifth Largest City with an Advanced Scan-to-Archive Batch Capture Solution
Tuesday 20. January 2009 - Kofax plc (LSE:KFX), the leading provider of Intelligent Capture & Exchange solutions, today announced it has received a major order from the City of Lausanne - Switzerland's fifth largest municipality - for Kofax Express, the company?s newest scan-to-archive solution for batch scanning applications.
Kofax Express will enable the city to digitize an average of 70 thousand pages per month of new resident registration documents at 30 different customer service locations.
The worldwide headquarters for the International Olympic Committee, Lausanne is situated within the French-speaking part of Switzerland along the shores of Lake Geneva. Among its many community services, Lausanne’s administration department oversees residency records management and processing for Swiss citizens as well as other nationals relocating to the city.
The implementation of Kofax Express will enable the city to electronically capture the multitude of documents that are required as part of Lausanne’s detailed residency application process. These include application forms, visas, passports and other legal documents with content in multiple formats and languages. The Kofax solution is also being leveraged to scan incoming mail using bar code labels for indexing and sorting.
“We aim to efficiently and courteously serve existing and future residents, but our application process was so paper-heavy that it often made prompt customer service a challenge,” said Dominique Monod, Deputy Chief of Service at City of Lausanne. “We needed a turnkey, all-in-one capture application that would be fast, effective, reliable, easy-to-use and simple to deploy, and Kofax Express offers us all this and more right out of the box.”
Built on the Microsoft Office 2007 user experience, Kofax Express provides basic scanning and indexing functionality. Key features include real-time image viewing, automated indexing using bar codes, “key from image” data entry capabilities, JPEG, TIFF and PDF output formats and flexible release scripts to Microsoft’s SharePoint and other repositories.
The application also includes Kofax’s VirtualReScan (VRS) software, the de facto standard that dramatically improves image quality, making even damaged or otherwise difficult-to-view documents readable.
“Kofax Express offers a highly practical batch capture solution for the City of Lausanne by reducing complex labor-intensive, paper-based processes at the front-end,” said Andrew Pery, Chief Marketing Officer at Kofax. “Staff will be able to process and record applications quickly, efficiently and accurately, which translates into enhanced productivity, lower operating costs and, most importantly, better customer service.”
