Dow Employee Receives Chemical Engineering Magazine Personal Achievement Award

Monday 19. January 2009 - Chemical Engineering magazine recognized Brian Kolthammer, research fellow, Basic Plastics & Chemicals, Hydrocarbons & Energy, and Licensing, with the 2008 Award for Personal Achievement in Chemical Engineering.

One of the publication’s most prestigious awards, the Personal Achievement Award was established in 1968 as a biennial award recognizing distinguished careers and notable achievement in the application of chemical engineering principles for solving industrial, community, or governmental challenges.

“A career recognition award like this is such a great honor because it represents an entire body of work enabled by countless people over time,” said Dr. Kolthammer. “The innovation we achieve in the Chemical Engineering field is only made possible by the collaboration of many talented colleagues.”

Dr. Kolthammer has played a critical role in the development, scale-up and commercial implementation of the catalyst, process and product technologies that embody Dow’s polyolefin business. Inventions to which he contributed have been awarded 33 U.S. patents as well as numerous patents in other countries. “Brian is a highly innovative problem-solver with a tremendous breadth and depth of skills,” said Charlie Kresge, Dow R&D vice president of Basic Plastics & Chemicals, Hydrocarbons & Energy, and Licensing. “His achievements are at the heart of a ten billion-pound-per-year volume of differentiated value products.”
