The Globe and Mail chooses CCI NewsGate for multimedia newsroom
Wednesday 24. December 2008 - The Globe and Mail, Report on Business magazine, www.theglobeandmail.com and www.reportonbusiness.com will be on one cross-media publishing system
The Globe and Mail, Canada´s National Newspaper, has chosen CCI to create a multimedia newsroom for its print and online properties. The Globe and Mail recently signed an agreement to implement a CCI NewsGate data center with digital publishing, CCI DigitalPublishing, built in. The system will support 285 seats, and will merge The Globe´s market-leading Canadian media offerings including The Globe and Mail, Report on Business magazine, www.theglobeandmail.com and www.reportonbusiness.com. Implementation of the system´s digital publishing engine began September 3rd, 2008.
“Our ability to continue providing high quality news content across multiple media channels is critical for us to maintain our lead in the marketplace,” said Phillip Crawley, Publisher and CEO, The Globe and Mail. “Our CCI NewsGate system will include a built-in online publishing engine, which will help us to integrate our newsroom, work more efficiently, and make us better able to deliver quality content to our print and online readers.”
CCI DigitalPublishing allows users to develop, share and publish online, easily and securely. Thus NewsGate provides immediate, limitless publishing to the Web and other digital channels. CCI embedded its own online publishing module using modules OEM´d from Escenic.
Also of particular interest to The Globe and Mail was the NewsGate Story Folder, from where a story´s content and resources can be assigned, created, shared and managed by all staff involved with the story. When a story has been published, its Story Folder and the content/material belonging to it is kept in NewsGate until its expiration date has been reached. When that happens, the Story Folder is moved to the NewsGate long-term storage area, from where all “stored” material can be searched and reused. “This remarkable concept takes content collaboration to a whole new level,” said Crawley.
“The Globe and Mail shares our vision and focus on the multimedia newsroom,” said Dan Korsgaard, CEO of CCI. “The need for solutions that allow customers to develop and manage multimedia products is growing, and we feel our NewsGate solution can accommodate current and future digital demands and provide the efficiency necessary for newsrooms to continue developing their offerings according to their marketplaces.”
