2008 in Review: Challenges, Innovations, a Look to the Future

Tuesday 23. December 2008 - From a stagnant world economy to changing reader habits, the publishing industry faced a myriad of difficult challenges in 2008. WoodWing Software helped the industry tackle those challenges this year with a host of new products and services - all of which will help position its customers to be successful well into the future.

“This will certainly be remembered as one of the most challenging years the world and our industry has ever seen,” said Hans Janssen, CEO of WoodWing Software. “With that in mind, we really put our focus this year on preparing our customers for the future. We asked ourselves: What will the publishing industry look like one year from now? Five years from now? Ten years from now? We put our entire focus on helping all of our customers be ready for it, to help them stay ahead of the curve.”

Along those lines, WoodWing launched Content Station, a revolutionary new editorial tool that allows users to easily push content to any publication channel – print, online, mobile – in a snap. Customers also got their first look at the Enterprise 6 publishing platform, with a host of new features and add-ons.

Around the globe, new publications and customers joined the WoodWing family. The list of new customers in 2008 included newspapers on several continents (UK’s Express Newspapers, Canada’s NOW Toronto, and Korea’s Joong Ang Daily among them), magazines (Switzerland’s Ringier, the German IFRA Magazine, Publishing Executive and Book Business in the U.S.), book publishers (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Aptara), corporate customers (Standard Life, Allianz) and many more.

WoodWing’s growth brought new staff members into the fold, bringing with them decades of experience in the publishing software industry. The company also earned several honors, including a second-straight listing as a member of the Deloitte Fast 50 (an elite list of the fastest-growing technology companies based in the Netherlands).

With 2009 around the corner, Janssen said WoodWing will continue to focus like a laser on the future. Among the coming attractions: A further expansion of the Enterprise publishing platform and full compatibility with Adobe’s CS4. WoodWing’s partners, customers and prospects will also be gathering in Greece next year for the 2009 Publishing Conference.
