Metso temporarily lays off almost all personnel in Turku, Finland

Wednesday 17. December 2008 - Metso has concluded the employee negotiations on temporary lay-offs of personnel commenced on October 31 regarding all personnel at their units in Turku, Finland.

As a result, almost all personnel at the Air and Chemical Systems unit and Metso Paper Turku Works Oy will be temporarily laid off. The layoffs result from a reduction in the amount of work, caused by changes in the schedules of projects in the order backlog.

The temporary layoffs will affect almost all personnel during the coming six months. The duration of the layoffs varies, depending on the workload, from some weeks to longer periods of time. The layoffs will begin in late January 2009.

Metso’s units in Turku employ altogether 384 people. They are part of Metso’s Paper business line and specialize in air and chemicals systems and corresponding specialist services for the pulp, paper and board industry.
