Singapore Press Holdings adds color capacity to Goss Colorliner presses

Thursday 04. December 2008 - Singapore's leading media company Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) has ordered 24 additional printing couples from Goss International for its existing Goss Colorliner presses to increase color capacity.

The four identical Colorliner presses each included three full-color four-over-four towers and two four-over-one towers originally. The expansion project will convert two four-over-one towers within each press line to four-over-four, increasing full-color capacity from 32 to 40 broadsheet pages in straight production.

Installation of the new printing couples on the first press will be completed in 2009. Additions to the remaining three presses will then be completed over the following 18 months.

Anthony Cheng, senior vice president of SPH, has been working with Goss presses since the original press purchase in 1995, and he and his team feel that they have optimized the performance and print quality. “The Colorliner is a good press, but we are short of back to back colors, which are in demand,” he explains.

With a meticulous maintenance program in place at SPH, Cheng believes the Colorliner press will remain competitive for the next 15 to 20 years. “Adding printing couples from Goss International is the best solution for us to gain color capacity and retain our competitive edge without having to invest in brand new presses.” he claims.

The SPH Print Center delivers more than one million newspapers each day. In addition to the 14 SPH newspaper titles, the Print Center also prints regional editions of international newspapers like Asahi Shimbun, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the Asian Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times and the International Herald Tribune. SPH also publishes and produces more than 100 magazine titles in Singapore and the region.
