For safe and profession installation, the ContiTech Power Transmission Group offers the CONTI-V MULTIRIB ELAST belt together with a disposable tool and installation instructions as complete tool kit. “This is the only way to make sure that the belt is installed according to manufacturer specifications and the only way to install these belts without damaging them,” Markus Pirsch, head of the ContiTech Power Transmission Group Marketing Service, said, as he explained the advantages of the kit. “You have to be careful when using other installation methods and tricks. The belt can be damaged, and there is even the danger of the fitter being injured,” according to Pirsch. ContiTech is the sole supplier that offers independent garages the same tools as provided to contracted garages by the car manufacturer. Like for all other belts, the proper installation is vital for the service life of the ELAST belt.

CONTI V-MULTIRIB ELAST belts are making inroads among modern engines. These elastic V-ribbed belts no longer need a belt tensioner because they do the job themselves. “And that drastically cuts drive costs,” explains Pirsch. In the automotive aftermarket, ContiTech offers the most extensive range by far for these special applications.

Belt installation is sort of like mounting a bicycle chain and takes strength. Here, the disposable tool in accordance with OE specifications is a big help and is included in each CONTI-V MULTIRIB ELAST TOOL KIT. At present there are 11 kits available. Apart from the tool kits, ContiTech also offers 27 further CONTI-V MULTIRIB ELAST belts. Installing these belts either requires no special tools, since, for example, the units can be swiveled, or they require a special reusable tool. “In any case, it is important to note that standard V-ribbed belts may not be used for these applications, even if the right length is available,” warns Pirsch. Whenever fixed center distances are available on drives in the lower and mid output ranges, elastic V-ribbed belts are ideal solutions for non-positive drives. They can be mounted with a fixed center distance and maintain their tension level – without needing an additional tensioner.
