Metso to reduce workforce in Matamata, New Zealand

Thursday 27. November 2008 - Metso will reduce 25 persons at its manufacturing facility in Matamata, New Zealand. The turmoil in the global economy has led to changes in the market environment for the construction industry, creating a weaker demand for Metso's products and services.

The company must therefore adjust its capacity accordingly. Operations need to be downsized and made more flexible to handle changes in the market.

The reductions will commence by the end of November 2008. The affected members of the staff have been informed about the planned changes and reduction of workforce. The Metso unit in Matamata is part of the company’s Construction business line and it employs 133 persons. The unit specializes in vertical shaft impact crushing equipment and related services, and the offering serves both mining and construction customers. Altogether Metso employs 137 people in New Zealand.
