GMG introduces drivers for new HP Z3200 and Epson Stylus(r) Pro 7900/9900 printers
Thursday 13. November 2008 - GMG, supplier of high-end color management and proofing solutions, announces that it has released ColorProof drivers for the HP Z3200 and Epson Stylus Pro 7900/9900 printers.
The GMG ColorProof drivers for the new inkjet printers allow users to take advantage of all the benefits of an internal spectrophotometer, along with the expanded color gamuts of the extended ink sets. For package printers, this means that GMG FlexoProof can be used to provide an extremely accurate proof that closely matches (in contract proof quality) brand colors for virtually all Pantone and Goe colors-while simulating the printed substrate. For commercial printers, GMG ColorProof can closely represent almost the complete range of special colors printed on an offset press.

The 12-ink HP DesignJet, with new HP 73 Chromatic Red ink, enables easy calibration and profiling with its embedded spectrophotometer and also delivers great ink efficiency. The Z3200’s12-ink printing system, using HP Vivera pigment inks, features new HP 73 Chromatic Red ink, supporting up to 95 percent of the PANTONE(r) library.
GMG ColorProof has received SWOP #5, SWOP #3 coated, and GRACoL coated #1 certification using HP Designjet Z3200 Photo Series printers using HP Vivera Dye Inks and GMG ProofPaper semimatte 250. The GMG ColorProof software can drive up to three printers in parallel without compromising on quality or performance. All connected printers will meet the color requirements for SWOP(r) or GRACoL(r) compliant proofing.

The new 11-ink Epson Stylus Pro 7900 and 9900 inkjet printers, with or without the optional Epson SpectroProofer(tm) spectrophotometer combine the precision of Epson’s MicroPiezo TFP(tm) print head with the performance of its 11-color Epson UltraChrome(tm) HDR ink set, expanding UltraChrome(tm) K3 with Vivid Magenta by adding Orange and Green. This high quality ink set expands on Epson’s UltraChrome(tm) K3 with Vivid Magenta by adding Orange and Green inks, which significantly increases the range of colours that can be achieved, especially bright green to yellow, and yellow to red. The Orange ink in particular contributes to reducing the graininess in skin tone.
GMG provides automatic calibration using internal spectrophotometers
GMG ColorProof is able to operate both series of inkjet printers much like other printers with internal spectrophotometers. Thus, GMG ProofControl unbundled, a complete proof verification system allowing automatic monitoring and recalibration of the printer, ensures that that every proof leaving the printers is a high-quality GMG contract proof. With the help of an internal spectrophotometer, every proof on the HP DesignJet Z3200 or Epson Stylus Pro 7900/9900 printers can be automatically verified. GMG Remote Calibration Wizard, an easy to use remote calibration tool for GMG ColorProof, supports wizard-based calibration and recalibration of printers at remote proofing sites, without the purchase of a separate application. The free, standalone application allows a remote printer to be calibrated with the help of a host ColorProof system – automatically, without any user intervention.
For converters who have installed proofing devices at consumer goods company offices or packaging design firms, the printers can be automatically calibrated and operated with assurance that a brand owner is reviewing a contract-quality, color-accurate proof. For commercial printers, their larger customers, such as advertising agencies, can operate proofing devices without calibrating or managing them.
“As inkjet printers become more sophisticated with a larger set of ink colors producing a wider color gamut, GMG software is able to produce extremely accurate colors. Particularly for packaging, where brand colors must be dead-on, this becomes a significant development,” comments Jim Summers, GMG Americas President. “In addition, the ability for a converter or printer to calibrate and manage these inkjet printers remotely eliminates the concern that brand owners are not viewing contract-quality, color-accurate proofs. It makes the process of remote approval of proofs much more confident from the perspective of the converter.”
