Florian Scherer Hits the Bulls-Eye
Wednesday 12. November 2008 - manroland trainee is the German Smallbore Champion
Florian Scherer, a trainee mechatronics engineer at manroland in Augsburg, has won the German Smallbore Championship. He took first place among the Junior B contestants in the Olympic discipline “Smallbore 3-Positions”, hitting a total of 1148 rings.
This was the marksmans second German championship title. He first shot his way to the winners rostrum in the 2004 Students Airgun Competition. The young man with the strong will to win started his hobby at an early age: “I first went to a shooting range with my father and uncle when I was twelve.” That was five years ago and meanwhile Scherer has perfected his craft. He began shooting with support, then free-hand, then entered airgun competitions and now smallbore. Scherer has steadily improved year for year. He currently shoots with the Burgfried Gabelbach Gun Club and the Royal Chartered Augsburg Gun Club. “I simply enjoy it,” says the 17-year-old. “Earlier I played football as well but theres no time for that now.” His training schedule is full: On Wednesdays he trains with the Bavarian squad, Fridays are dedicated to airgun practice, and on the weekends he can generally be found at shooting ranges in Munich.
Taking aim at the national team
Scherer has a clear target for the future: “I want to get in the national team and prepare for the European and World Championships.” Precision and strong concentration also help him in his job. This is what his instructor Johann Heißler, Head of Web Press Electrical Assembly at manroland, has to say about the successful marksman: “Florian Scherers great willingness to perform at the highest level also helps him with his work: using ones brains, skill, diligence and sensible behaviour are among the cornerstones of our training.”
