Canon and Software Imaging Launch a Resource-Friendly Print Driver for Citrix Environments

Monday 10. November 2008 - Canon Europe, world leader in imaging solutions, and Software Imaging, a technology provider in the print and imaging industry, have today announced the launch of a Lite Driver for Canon print devices in Citrix environments.

Canon and Software Imaging collaborate to develop a Lite Print Driver for Canon’s corporate customers

New Lite Driver from Canon improves print efficiency in Citrix environments

More than 215,000 organisations worldwide including the Fortune 100 use Citrix remote access technology. These large corporations increasingly demand print drivers that are more efficient and ultimately more cost-effective.

The new Lite Driver from Canon, developed by Software Imaging, is far less demanding on corporate IT resources than standard print drivers. Its memory footprint is a tenth of the size of a standard print driver and significantly does not increase in size when additional drivers are installed. The new driver also minimises the network traffic generated around printing, through the enhanced compression of network data.

Adam Gillbe, European Solutions Marketing Manager, Canon Europe, says: “Listening to our clients, we knew that there was a real demand for a more resource-friendly print driver for Citrix environments. The Lite Driver will boost network efficiency and deliver significant cost savings by freeing up valuable IT network and end-user resources.”

Kevin Jampole, Director, Sales & Marketing for Software Imaging says: “The development of a print driver specifically for Citrix environments required a new and innovative approach. Working closely with Canon, we have developed a ‘light’ yet powerful print driver that will bring real benefit to Canon’s corporate clients. This is the latest achievement in a successful partnership between Canon and Software Imaging that spans more than 20 years.”

The Lite Driver is the newest collaborative venture in a partnership between the two companies which dates back to the early 1990s when Software Imaging developed the first 24 bit Windows colour-capable driver for the Canon CLC-10. More recently, Canon and Software Imaging partnered at drupa 2008 to demonstrate new XPS solutions.

The Lite Drive supports a wide range of Canon devices from single to multifunctional printers (MFPs). The driver is robust and scalable, and able to process large numbers of simultaneous print jobs. It also utilises Software Imaging’s patent-pending ManageRight technology, which makes it easy for IT managers to enable and disable functionality to different groups of end users.

The Lite Driver will be made available throughout Europe in November, 2008.
