Dutch Publishers boost productivity with Atex Content Management and Advertising solutions

Thursday 30. October 2008 - ¡ The Dutch regional newspaper publisher Media Groep Limburg has selected Atex’s content and advertising solutions, combined together to achieve the best efficiency and production process optimisation. ¡ Wegener Huis-aanhuis Media, publisher of De Weekkrant, upgraded its Atex content management solution improving the editorial workflow, enabling remote correspondents to interact directly with the system and enhancing content re-use on digital channels.

Atex, the world’s largest provider of mission-critical software solutions and services to the global media industry, announces that two Dutch publishers, Wegener Hius-aan-hius Media and Media Groep Limburg, have rolled out significant projects employing its Content and Advertising Management solutions. Both publishers are part of Mecom, one of the largest media companies in Europe.
Wegener Huis-aan-huis Media, a division of the Wegener Group, publishes De Weekkrant, a weekly newspapers with 220 local editions distributed in 15 regions of the country, that reaches a circulation of 7 million copies per week.
Based in the Southern Region of The Netherlands, Media Groep Limburg publishes two daily newspapers, The Limburger and Limburgs Dagblad, having a total circulation of 180.000 copies and reaching more than half a million readers daily. The Group is also present on digital media with a set of websites, ranging from business topics to local news and classified ads.
When De Weekkrant decided to upgrade its Atex Prestige installation to the latest version, the project team took the opportunity of reviewing the workflow process by optimising two aspects: external contributions and web publishing. With the latest version of the content management system, remote correspondents and freelance journalist are now able to connect to the content repository through a web site and to send their stories directly into the system. This simplifies the news reception and creation process and makes every contribution trackable. On the web publishing side, the new content management system integrates better with the on-line publications, thus enhancing content re-use for web and mobile channels.
Media Groep Limburg selected the Atex Hermes Content Management platform and coupled it with the Atex Advertising Management solution. This combination has allowed the publisher to make editorial and advertising workflows uniform across the Group, thus simplifying maintenance tasks and reducing potential issues.
According to Tonnie Klein-Hemmink, Director of Wegener ICT Media which oversaw both implementation projects, “there was a clear need of improving the workflows in those newsrooms and of enabling a better re-use of contents on digital media such as websites and m-sites. This is an area our company is leveraging to stay competitive in a challenging market situation”.
“We were particularly satisfied” – continued Tonnie Klein-Hemmink – “of the quality and flexibility of Atex’s products and solutions, which enabled our project teams to roll them out in record time, achieving all the goals we had in mind when we started. Our long-term relationship with Atex proved to be successful once again.”
“When you look at the rationale behind these projects” said David Hall, Atex Chief Executive Officer of North Europe, Middle East and Africa “it’s all about nurturing new digital channels whilst optimising the production process of print products. This is exactly what Atex is doing for publishers all over the world, employing both its popular content and advertising management solutions and the newly acquired web content management solution: Polopoly. We call this DNA – Digital News and Advertising.”
