Offset Printing
KING ABDICATES!!!
Tuesday 28. October 2008 - A combination King newspaper press made up of Print King 4-high towers and News King two high towers is leaving the Netherlands for a new home in South East Asia.
The press was dismantled by Graphic Web Systems in record time at the Meppel printing works of F.D. Hoekstra Boom Offset-Rotatie and is now on route to the Indonesian island of Java. The target is to have it back in production before the end of the year! Together with the press is an AGFA pre-press system.
It has been bought by a new book printing company, P.T. Candi Surya Wahana Printing of Surakarta. It will be specifically used to fulfill school book contracts. Commercial Director at Graphic Web Systems, Eric van Kessel recently returned from a business trip to Indonesia with salesman, Jasper van der Meer, “We are delighted to continue our close co-operation with the Indonesian printers. I calculate that with this press we have sold over 50 print units and 9 folders to the country in the past two years,” he said.
CEO at Graphic Web Systems and past IFRA President, Willem Kok is equally bullish about the companys position as the primary outlet for surplus presses and ancillary equipment. He said, “Everybody knows the newspaper industry is going through a prolonged period of rationalization, which includes replacing or disposing of presses. In the Netherlands especially, presses are very well maintained so whilst they may not necessarily be suitable for publishing demands here, they can still have a useful working life elsewhere in the world.”
Apart from this King press, Graphic Web Systems are also responsible for the marketing of four KBA Commander 70 presses from the Wegener Group in Best, two Colorman M presses with Ferag mailing lines from NDC and a Global G100 press at Buijze Grafische in Noorwijk. “We have strong enquiries for the Commanders in stacked satellite configurations for full colour printing either two or three towers. We will be upgrading the controls on the press so at the same time can integrate any other modification or enhancement a customer may want,” explained Mr. Kok. “Newspaper presses are built to such high standards that very often it is only the configuration and the controls that are out dated. IFRA Expo is an ideal opportunity for us to demonstrate how we can breathe new life into press systems making them efficient and flexible for the modern world.”
