CGS Announces the ORIS College Outreach Program
Tuesday 28. October 2008 - Providing ORIS Color Management Solutions to Colleges and Universities
CGS Publishing Technologies International the global leader of color management solutions, digital proofing solutions and specially-formulated media, is pleased to announce the introduction of the ORIS College Outreach Program to provide ORIS technology to colleges and universities in North America. In the past CGS has donated ORIS Technology to Dunwoody College in Minneapolis, West Virginia University, Arizona State University and University of Wisconsin at Stout. Building this commitment to higher education with these donations CGS has created the ORIS College Outreach Program.
Through this program CGS will donate ORIS software to qualified colleges and universities. CGS is partnering with EIZO, Just and Proactive to provide a complete color management and proofing solution to complement graphic arts curriculums. The solution can include a high resolution color monitor, computer hardware and viewing booth. CGS will provide installation, training and on-going support.
Trevor Haworth, CEO of CGS commenting on the program stated, “CGS is committed to the future of the graphic communications industry and the students in the many graphic communications and management programs in the United States and Canada. These students will be the backbone of our industry in the future. We want to make sure they have the best tools at their disposal while they are in school to prepare them to enter the industry after graduation.”
The program is administered by Heath Luetkens, Director of Technology at CGS in North America. He works with those colleges and universities interested in applying for a donation of ORIS color management and proofing solutions to insure the technology will be properly integrated into the curriculum of the many fine programs available. “It is vitally important the students have hands on experience with ORIS technology when learning color management and theory, stated Heath Luetkens. We want to take a leadership roll in bringing new talent to the graphic communications industry that are well prepared to provide the highest quality color.”

ORIS College Outreach Donation
The mission of the Graphic Communications Program at Clemson is to create practical problem solvers for the printing and allied industries. Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degrees in Graphic Communications are offered. The curriculum focuses on learning opportunities through hands-on activities in all printing processes and throughout the printing and converting workflows. A key component of the students education experience is an internship program, requiring students to complete two paid internships prior to graduating.
A relationship between the Clemson University Packaging Science Department and the Department of Graphic Communications has created the new Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics, opening in December, 2008 on the Clemson campus. The institute will play a vital role in new package development and research activities with emphasis in the areas of the consumer experience, the package development workflow, sustainability, and printed electronics.
CGS has donated ORIS Hybrid Proofing which includes ORIS Color Tuner for hard copy proofs and ORIS Soft Proof for monitor based proofing along with an EIZO Monitor to the program.
According Jay Sperry of Clemson University, “In virtually every class the student is required to design, layout, separate, proof and print custom jobs and products. ORIS Color Tuner is used to teach students how to create color managed contract proofs with an EPSON inkjet printer. With ORIS Hybrid Proof students call learn about workflow and color management procedures with paper-free and hardcopy proofing.”

They are Kelly Hansen, Technical Marketing Specialist and Fritz Mahnke, Application Support Specialist. Kelly and Fritz are the future of our industry.”
