First time: International Senefelder Foundation at Frankfurt Book Fair

Friday 17. October 2008 - A retrospective on three decades of lithographic works by its prizewinners is presented by the International Senefelder Foundation at "Platz der Buchkunst" in Hall 4.1, Q 101.

This year is the ninth time the Frankfurt Book Fair offers a forum of its own for “books of a very different kind”. The motto “Book Art under One Roof” unites more than 100 publishing companies, museums, book and paper artists, and studio communes as exhibitors around the “Platz der Buchkunst” (Book Art Place). Contemporary book art of high artistic quality and craftsmanship stand out not only by their originality. They are also much in demand as collectors’ items for book lovers, libraries and museums. In a special exhibition, the International Senefelder Foundation is showing 35 works of its prizewinners, among them lithographies by Stefan Szcesny, Babara Beisinghoff, Koichi Bugihara, Bard Varbaenen and Jim Dine.

The focus at the “Platz der Buchkunst” is on artistic printing techniques. Lithography and etching is presented by Druckwerkstatt Neuhauser Kunstmühle from Salzburg, Austria. The printing museum of the Darmstadt Technical University demonstrates hot-metal composition on a linotype machine. Papermaking by hand is shown by Johannes Follmer of Homburger Papiermühle (paper mill in Homburg, Germany). As a tribute to this year’s guest nation of honor, the Istanbul gallery owner Nuran Terzio?lu has compiled an exhibition of book objects by contemporary Turkish artists. A master of the traditional art of marbled paper design, Hikmet Barutçugil from Istanbul, explains the technique of Ebru paper.

The Book Art News Forum offers visitors an overview of new publications by book art exhibitors. The project is an action of the Frankfurt Book Fair. The direction of these activities is the responsibility of BuchDruckKunst e.V. Hamburg, with whom the International Senefelder Foundation has been in close partnership for several years.
