Gemini Ousts Cylinders in Favour of Varimatrix
Monday 13. October 2008 - Gemini Press, Shoreham, has replaced two ageing Cylinders with Heidelberg's latest commercial die cutter, the Varimatrix 105.
“We needed to increase both our flexibility and speed of cutting and creasing, and we looked at our options and liked the Varimatrix. It’s much faster and easier to use than the Cylinders,” says Nigel Holmes, Chairman. “Its equipment that all five group sites can use to good effect.”
The Varimatrix can handle sheets of 370 x 400 to 750 x 1050 millimetres and stocks of 80 to 1,400 grams per square metre (and cartonboard up to 4 millimetres thick) at a speed of up to 7,500 sheets per hour. The feeder can switch sidelays from pull to push mode which enables a wide range of stocks to be handled with ease.
“We will use the Varimatrix primarily for folders and ticket wallets but it also opens up new opportunities for other die-cut products,” says Mr Holmes. “The people operating love it and its busy all day long. It looks modern, it’s versatile in the range of stocks it handles and the stripping station is very efficient. Overall the Varimatrix enables us to supply customers with an even higher quality finish at speed and with great accuracy.”
Gemini reports that the installation and training went smoothly and that they are confident of Heidelberg’s back-up service for this equipment.
Gemini Press handles a very broad range of work including mail order, maps and travel brochures. Most work comes from the South but some from other parts of the UK.
