Valuable Advice for Bicyclists
Monday 06. October 2008 - manroland increases awareness of traffic security
manroland offers valuable advice for bicyclists with the aim of reducing the number of road accidents. At an early-morning bicycle check during shift changeover, employees in the Augsburg facility could win 200 safety sets for bicyclists. Each set consists of a bicycle helmet, safety vest, bicycle glasses, and gloves. Fitting clothes were available for every dress size. manroland’s purpose of these activities is revealed by the posters that are on display everywhere around the factory: “We want you to be well-set on your bike.”

The campaign was triggered by the increasing number of accidents among employees on the way to work. Due to the increasing fuel prices, a growing number of employees use their bicycles instead of their cars to come to work, which increased the number of bicycle accidents. The manroland security measures in Augsburg aim to increase the awareness of traffic dangers. Berthold Lautenbacher, Executive Vice President Production and Materialmanagement at manroland, emphasizes: “Workplace security is very important to us. Any accident is an accident too many. This campaign is another component in lowering the number of working and commuting accidents.” Anton Büchele, Head of Industrial Safety at manroland, agrees and is pleased with the great interest of bicyclists: “So far we have advised around 500 bicyclists. The feedback is entirely positive. Our recommendations are well received and well accepted.” The campaign is supported by management and backed by the works committee.
