Metso Paper to start employee negotiations at its Järvenpää and Jyväskylä units in Finland
Friday 03. October 2008 - Metso Paper is starting up co-determination negotiations concerning its personnel at its Jyväskylä and Järvenpää units in Finland. An expected reduction in work volumes has lead to the need for adjusting capacity utilization and resources. The negotiations do not concern the personnel of Metso Foundries Jyväskylä Oy.
Finnish Labour Law requires employers and employees representatives to conduct co-determination negotiations in all issues that may potentially affect the number of personnel or significantly change the status of personnel. The goal is to hear the employee views during the process. According to the Finnish practice, temporary lay-offs do not cause any costs to employer. Employees receive unemployment compensation from their trade union or independent unemployment fund for the duration of the lay-off period.
The number of people to be possibly laid off, the duration of the temporary lay-offs and their timeframes are dependent on the work loads of various departments. The temporary lay-offs will begin in November at the earliest.
