Pagefast beefs up its cutting and folding capability

Stahlfolder TA52

Monday 01. September 2008 - Magazine and commercial printer Pagefast is extending its finishing services with a Stahlfoder TA52 and Polar 78X guillotine. The TA52 is replacing an MBO model folder.

The new equipment will enable Pagefast to retain work in-house that at present goes out to subcontractors, returning savings of £1,000 a month on one 160,000-run contract alone. It will also improve turnround time, delivering an associated increase in competitiveness.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence in the performance and safety of Heidelberg gear, and we like the back-up that Heidleberg provides,” says Keith Simpson, managing director of Pagefast. “We have Heidelberg presses and we also like the fact there will be a common look and a single supplier to deal with.”

Pagefast has enjoyed steady growth and is adding a floor to one of its three buildings, creating additional storage space for a growing volume of jobs. The combined investment in building and equipment is £100,000.

Now that the company can cut and fold high volumes in-house, most of its magazine work will go out as folded sections, not sheets. It expects this improved capability and greater cost effectiveness to be instrumental in bringing in new business; the company is talking to five publishers about new work and is confident that its new equipment will help close the deal.
